APA-Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) In an unprecedented move, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Monday reappointed Aisha Mohammed as defense minister in his latest cabinet reshuffle.
She had been serving as minister of Lowlands and Irrigation – a position now held by former Defense Minister Abrham Belay.
Belay had been heading the defense ministry during the two-year northern war, according to a statement issued by the office of the prime minister.
Mohammed Indris has been picked to head the Democratic System Building Center with the rank of state minister.
The center was previously led by Adem Farah, deputy chair of the incumbent Prosperity Party.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the new appointments are scheduled to come into effect officially from May 21st, 2024.
