Ethiopia’s Athlete Melkeneh Azeze Saturday won gold in men’s 3000 meter at World Athletics Under 20 in Cali, a city in western Colombia.
Azeze has finished the race in 7:44.06 ahead of Kenya’s Felix Korir and Edwin Kimosong who settled for silver and bronze respectively.
Another Ethiopia athlete who took part in men’s 3000m, Diriba Girma finished the race fourth and settled for diploma. Melkeneh’s medal increased the number of the gold to two while three silver medals are worn previously.
On Friday,Ethiopian athletes Sembo Alemayehu and Meseret Yeshaneh have secured 3000 meters silver and bronze at World U20 Championships in Cali.
Alemayehu finished the race in 9:30.41 while Meseret Yeshaneh settled for third in 9:42.02.
Kenyan Faith Cherotich clinched the 3000m steeplechase title in 9:16.14. This was an upgrade from the bronze medal she won during last year’s edition at Moi Stadium, Kasarani. Kenya’s other representative Pamela Kosgei fell victim to the high pace to finish a distant fifth in 10.06.42.
