Residents of Ethiopia’s Bahir Dar city Friday held stay-at-home protests demanding justice over the recent killing of ethnic Amharas in Oromia State.
The latest backlash came after a new wave of protests hit cities and towns in the Amhara region, demanding the government to prevent ethnically motivated killings in the region.
Government offices, businesses, transportation and schools were shut down but it was not clear if this mass action would continue in the city.
According to local reports, the protests are part of wider an protests against targeted attacks blamed on the rebel Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) in North Shoa Zone, where an undisclosed numbers of civilians were mowed down last week.
The regional government Friday afternoon warned that it would take measures against those who will not return to work by Saturday.
Meanwhile, anti government protests have continued for the fourth day, calling an end to the violence.
