The Ethiopian National Team have dropped a spot in the latest FIFA World rankings following the early exit from recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The National team now ranks 41st in Africa and 138 globally in the February’s edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking released on Thursday.
The Walia Ibex were ranked 40th and 187, in the continent and the world, respectively, in the previous month.
The newly crowned AFCON champions, Senegal not only retained a top position as the highest-ranked African country but also climb from 20th to 18th in the global ranking.
The world football governing body said this is the highest rank ever for the Senegal, who won their first Africa Cup of Nations title last weekend after beating Egypt in penalty shootouts.
Morocco are Africa’s second-highest ranked team and they occupy the 24th spot globally, despite losing to Egypt in the quarter-final of AFCON 2021.
Nigeria, who crashed out of AFCON in the Round of 16, has moved up four places to 32nd in the world and ranks 3rd in Africa.
Egypt, Tunisia, Cameroon, Algeria, Mali, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso in that order occupy the remaining top 10 best teams spots in Africa.
Unsurprisingly, the Cup of Nations generated most the movement seen in the year’s first edition of the Ranking.
The biggest jump of all this month was by Gambia (125, + 25), the Scorpions ascending 25 places courtesy of their run to the quarter-finals at the African Cup. Equatorial Guinea, who also reached the last eight at the tournament, climb 15 places and are now in the Top 100.
