Egypt and Sudan have categorically rejected Ethiopia’s proposal to share data on the filling of its controversial hydro-power dam on the Nile River, APA has learnt on Monday.
Addis Ababa had invited its neighbours to nominate dam operators for data exchange before the filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) in the approaching rainy seasons.
Ethiopia is set to begin the second filling of the dam in July and August, an operation which could be extended until September depending on the volume of flooding or rain water.
Cairo and Khartoum maintained that they are seeking a legally binding agreement over the operations of the dam, a development infrastructure which Addis Ababa insists is crucial to its economic renaissance.
After the Kinshasa meeting, Ethiopia emphasized that the second-year filling of the dam reservoir would be carried out as scheduled.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi last Wednesday issued a warning to Ethiopia about risking conflict over its giant dam on the Blue Nile.
This was after talks involving the two countries and Sudan which ended without progress.
