The European Union (EU) Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini started a three-day tour to the countries of the Horn of Africa as of Monday.
She arrived in the Somalia’s capital Mogadishu, where she met with the country’s PM Hassan Ali Khayre, visited troops of EU Training Mission in Somalia and EUCAP Somalia personnel.
“Let me express my deepest recognition and appreciation for your determination and professional engagement despite the very challenging environment you are facing” Mogherini was quoted as saying.
The High Representative will then move to Kenya, where she is due to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta and members of the government.
She will also meet with youth and civil society groups and inaugurate the new EU Delegation offices in Nairobi.
Mogherini will also travel to Djibouti and Ethiopia. In Djibouti, she will meet with President Ismail Omar Guelleh, GAD) Executive Secretary Mahboub Maalim.
Early on Tuesday Mogherini arrived in Addis Ababa where she held discussion with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. She is scheduled to discuss the next EU-African Union ministerial meeting and regional issues with African Union Commission Chair Moussa Faki Mahamat.
