The European Parliament, on Wednesday, stressed what it called the strategic nature of relations between Morocco and the European Union (EU) and recommended more support for the kingdom.
A report on the implementation of the general budget of the EU for financial year 2019 adopted in a plenary session, the European parliament indicates that the funds allocated under the budget support programs and the Neighborhood Instrument gave rise to positive results.
According to the report this was within the framework of cooperation with Morocco, “a long-standing neighbor and strategic partner.”
While emphasising that EU cooperation has contributed to the implementation of reforms in Morocco, which has had a positive impact on the socio-economic development of the country, the report urges the strengthening of the orientation of sectoral budget support and the improvement of the political dialogue strategy with the kingdom.
Relations between Morocco and the EU date back more than 50 years.
They are governed by a so-called association agreement and multi-sectoral cooperation instruments.
The kingdom is the main beneficiary of the EU Neighborhood Instrument in the region.
Having advanced status with the EU, Morocco also maintains special relations with the twenty-seven states making up the European bloc in the context of political dialogue.
The North African kingdom is their key partner in the fight against terrorism and illegal migration.
