Ruling Botswana Democratic Party’s presidential aspirant Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi has taken her party to court citing irregularities ahead of its elective congress billed scheduled to start on Friday, APA can reveal.
The former foreign affairs minister, who is contesting for the presidency of the BDP against President Mokgweetsi Masisi, lodged an urgent court application in which she complained of irregularities against her ahead of the elective congress set for Kang village in the west of the country from April 5-7.
The congress is expected to elect the new BDP leadership.
In papers lodged with the High Court in Gaborone, Venson-Moitoi wants the court to declare null and void a decision by the party’ secretary general Mpho Balopi’s to bar from the congress a group of 26 delegates who are sponsoring her candidature.
She also wants to be furnished with the voter’s roll.
