The leadership of Ideal Democratic Party (PDI) has fired it second vice-chairperson, Isaac Munyakazi, Former Minister of State in Charge of Primary and Secondary, from the party after he resigned last month from the Government over corruption scandal, an official source revealed Monday in Kigali.
The political party’s leadership, on Sunday, March 1, decided to fire sack Munyakazi after reaching a conclusion that his actions had cast the party image into negative light. He allegedly took a bribe of Rwf500,000 (About $ 549 USD ) to manipulate the schools raking in the 2019 national exams.
After knowing that his position in the party was untenable, Munyakazi reportedly tendered his resignation, which the party’s leadership refused and instead fired him, reports said.
“We refused his resignation. What we did is to fire him,” Musa Fazil Harelimana, the Chairman of PDI said.
The embattled politician who recently resigned from his position as the Minister of State in charge of Primary and Secondary Education is also being investigated by Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) for
corruption-related offences.
The resignation of Munyakazi earlier last month caught many off guard, but the State Minister was also caught in a number of personal scandals and using his power to influence things in the Ministry, exhibiting a conflict of interest.
