Mozambique’s National Meteorological Institute (INAM) has warned of a heat wave on Tuesday in the provinces of Gaza, Maputo and Tete.
INAM said in a statement that the three provinces are forecast to experience extremely high temperatures ranging from 40 to 45 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
The institute called on residents of the three regions to exercise extreme caution by taking a lot of fluids and avoiding being in the sun to prevent dehydration.
It further warned that Maputo province is also expected to experience thunderstorms and gusty winds starting from Tuesday.
Parts of Mozambique are prone to heavy rains that sometimes result in flooding in low-lying areas.
