One of the famous Rwandan film actor Jean Bosco Uwihoreye a.k.a “Ndimbati” facing charge of defilement and for sexually abusing and impregnating a minor girl was Thursday acquitted of the charges by The Nyarugenge Intermediate Court in Kigali City.
During the ruling, the presiding judge said that the court decided to clear Uwihoreye because the prosecutors failed to present undoubtedly evidence to pin him on both charges.
The court also ruled that Uwihoreye will not pay Rwf30 million ($30,000 USD) of damages arguing that since there is no case, there is no damage.
Uwihoreye was arrested on March 10 a few days after a young woman testified, in an interview with a local YouTube channel, that the actor sexually exploited her back in 2019 and impregnated her at the age of 17.
She later gave birth to twins whom she now claims she is struggling to feed because the suspect failed to keep his promise that he would financially help her to raise them.
Previously prosecution had requested to convict Uwihoreye and hand him a sentence of 25 years in jail.
The presiding judge said he felt unsure of the accused’s guilt and acquitted him of the charges.
