The candidate of the “Diomaye for President” Coalition obtained 2,434,751 votes, representing 54.28 percent of the valid votes cast in last Sunday’s election.
On Wednesday 27 March 2024, the National Commission for Voting Registration (CNRV) published the official provisional results of the presidential election held on Sunday 24 March. According to the chairman of the CNRV, Amady Diouf, Bassirou Diomaye Faye obtained 2,434,751 votes, or 54.28 percent of the valid votes.
His main challenger, Amadou Ba, a candidate backed by Macky Sall, received 1,605,086 votes or 35.79 percent of the electorate who cast their ballots.
They were followed by the ‘Parti de l’Unite et du Rassemblement’ (Unity and Rally Party, PUR) candidate, Aliou Mamadou Dia (2.80 percent), and Khalifa Sall (1.56 percent). The 15 other contenders each obtained less than 1 percent of the votes.
The President of the Dakar Court of Appeal, who heads the CNRV, also announced that 4,519,253 of the 7,371,890 people on the electoral roll had voted. Some 33,991 invalid ballots were counted, compared with
4,485,165 valid votes. According to Amady Diouf, the turnout was 61.30 percent.
The Constitutional Council must announce the final results within three days of examining any complaints.
On Monday 25 March, Amadou Ba congratulated Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who gave his first speech on the same day, setting out his priorities. The President-elect pledged to govern with humility and to fight
corruption. He has received congratulatory messages from several heads of state in Africa and around the world.
