APA-Abidjan (Cote d’Ivoire) Five members of a family were killed in a landslide in the Mossikro sub-neighbourhood of Attecoube, a district in the northwest of Abidjan.
They were a father, a mother and their three children.
They lost their lives on Saturday night when three makeshift shacks collapsed, according to witnesses and firefighters who were on the scene to pull the victims from the rubble.
Heavy rains lashed several parts of Abidjan over the weekend.
In a message, the Ivorian government urged people to avoid high-risk areas, providing contacts to call in case of need (100/180/101).
In mid-June 2022, intense rainfall in the Mossikro Santé 3 sub-neighborhood triggered a landslide that claimed eight victims, including six dead and two injured.
Landslides are a recurrent occurrence in Attecoube, which has a rugged topography.
