At least 45 people have been killed in South Africa’s Durban coastal town following heavy rains in the area over the past few days.
According to the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government, several people were on Tuesday still missing and emergency services were searching for survivors.
The heavy rains, which started last week, have left several houses damaged and swept away roads, thereby affecting transportation and rescue operations.
Disaster management teams are evacuating people in areas hit by mudslides and where buildings had collapsed, officials said.
The flooding came as scientists warned that climate change is fuelling heavier rainfall than usual in southern Africa.
