The coach of Gambia’s national football team Wednesday named a 24-man squad for upcoming qualifiers for the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025/2026.
The Scorpions are in Group A alongside Comoros, Madagascar and Tunisia.
Coach Jonathan McKinstry’s side face the Comoros away on September 4th before hosting Tunisia in a home fixture to be played in Morocco on September 8th because of an ongoing FIFA ban on the Independence Stadium to host international matches due to poor infrastructure.
The 39-year-old Northern Irishman took charge of the Scorpions last June and managed one victory and a defeat in World Cup qualifiers earlier this year.
He replaced Belgian Tom Saintfiet who led The Gambia to two back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, progressing to the quarterfinals of the competition in Cameroon in 2021 but fell short in the Ivory Coast edition where his team exited at the group stage.
Coach McKinstry’s full squad list for the AfCON qualifiers is as follows.
Goalkeepers: Ebrima Jarjue, Sheikh Sibi, Lamin Saidy
