APA – Kigali (Rwanda) – One of the former goalkeeper of Rwanda’s national team “Amavubi” (Wasps), Patrick Rutayisire has died at the age of 35, a close relative to his family confirmed to APA Wednesday.
Rutayisire who was living in Canada has recently revealed that he had been diagnosed since last year with stomach cancer.
Rutayisire began his career at Rwandan first league AS Kigali, he made several appearances for Rwanda’s national team also known as “Amavubi” (Wasps).
Rutayisire was hospitalized in November 2021 in Canada. Soon afterward, six tumours were determined to be malignant, and he was diagnosed with stomach cancer.
He has been undergoing chemotherapy to hopefully reduce the size of the tumours so they can be surgically removed.
