APA – Kigali (Rwanda) – The former Inspector General of Rwandan Police (IGP), Emmanuel Gasana a.k.a Rurayi is to be charged in court for obtaining or trying to obtain bribes, a judicial source confirmed Tuesday to APA in Kigali.
The spokesperson of National Public Procurement Agency (NPPA), Augustin Nkusi stated that the case file has been submitted to the court on November 6. where the defendant faces two charges; soliciting and accepting illegal benefits and abusing his functions.
Gasana has been governor of Eastern Province for approximately two and a half years, having been appointed by President Paul Kagame on March 15, 2021.
The retired senior police officer also served as Commissioner General of Rwanda National Police (RNP) and subsequently Inspector General between 2009 to 2018.
Before transitioning to the Rwandan police, he was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF).
He was promoted to Brigadier General in the RDF and served as acting Chief of Logistics for the army.
Gasana also previously held the position of Governor of Southern Province from 2018 to 2020.
