“I believe that Morocco, in many ways, is a source of inspiration. This country, which does not have abundant natural resources except the sun and the wind, is still on a logic of energy transition. It aims to develop about 2,000 megawatts of solar energy and 2,000 megawatts of hydropower,” Fall pointed out.
The director of promotion and cooperation of the Renewable Energy Agency of Senegal (ANER) was speaking on the sidelines of a panel of the Crans Montana Forum, an event dedicated to Africa and South-South cooperation being held for the fifth consecutive year in Dakhla.
This edition, which will run from 14 to17 March, 2019, is held under the theme: “To build a powerful and modern Africa in the service of its youth.”
Mr. Fall advocated the use of renewable energy to turn, gradually, the chapter of fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas) which are very polluting.
“It is clear that the exclusive use of hydrocarbons poses a threat in the long run because they are exhaustible energies. In addition, many studies have shown that they undermine the sustainability of our environment. The best solution is to strike a balance that allows countries to develop while preserving the environment,” he said.
According to ANER’s director, “renewable energies are the best solution to solve the problem of access to energy and the modernization of its consumption.”
The official opening ceremony of the Crans Montana Forum in Dakhla, considered as “the real laboratory of the Africa of tomorrow”, is due to take place on Saturday.
