APA – Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) – Since Ibrahim Traoré took power, relations between Burkina Faso and France have continued to deteriorate.
“France is suspending all development aid and budgetary support to Burkina Faso until further notice,” the French Foreign Ministry announced on Sunday, August 6.
Current French development aid projects in Burkina Faso amount to 482 million euros, while budget aid planned for 2022 amounts to 13 million, the ministry said.
This announcement is the consequence of the support given by the transitional authorities to the National Committee for the Defence of the Fatherland (CNSP).
Following the coup against Mohamed Bazoum, France suspended its development and budgetary aid to Niger.
In a joint communiqué issued on Monday, Bamako and Ouagadougou expressed their solidarity with the coup in Niger and declared that “military intervention” to restore the ousted president “would be tantamount to a declaration of war against Burkina Faso and Mali.”
France is backing the countries of the Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in their efforts to restore President Bazoum, who has been in detention since the July 26 coup.
