According to N’zahou, who made a statement on Wednesday evening, this could well apply in view of the seriousness of their action, under the “provisions” of the country’s Criminal Code.
The public prosecutor said there were six involved, whereas the Minister of Communication and spokesman for the government, Guy Bertrand Mapangou, had reported ten suspects last Monday.
The number of deaths from the coup attempt remains at two – a mutineer and a loyalist gendarme.
Four soldiers, including the head of the mutineers, Lieutenant Kelly Ondo Obiang, are reportedly currently in police custody on the premises of the military intelligence service.
It would be recalled that early Monday (4 am) Gabonese soldiers seized the national broadcaster and announced the establishment of the National Council of Restoration.
The Gabonese government announced a few hours later that their coup attempt was foiled, and that everything was “under control”.
