The Gambia Bureau of Statistics (GBOS) on Wednesday announced it would extend the population and housing census to cover areas not enumerated during the three week exercise.
In a statement seen by APA GBOS said ”although the initial 21 days allocated for the census enumeration has elapsed, enumeration still continues across the country for households that are yet to be enumerated”.
The reasons some households were left out range from for refusals by would-be respondents, absence from home as census teams made their rounds or census officials not granted access to some places.
”The public is once again reminded that getting enumerated or responding to the census questions is a legal obligation” the GBOS statement said.
On Monday GBOS said that 98% of households across The Gambia were enumerated accounting for about 96% pf the total population which translates to 2,528,456 persons.
It said the current average household size at national level stands at 8.5.
