A series of deaths involving children in The Gambia has prompted an investigation by health officials about their possible link to the intake of a paracetamol syrup, APA learnt on Thursday.
According to the Director of Health Services, Mustapha Bittaye, autopsies from the children’s death ”suggest the possibility of paracetamol intakes”.
Gambia’s health ministry in August raised alarm over the death in similar circumstances of 28 infants from suspected E.coli.
The conditions of the children before they died deteriorated to kidney failures, vomiting, difficulty urinating and fever.
Gambia’s health infrastructure is known to be fragile.
