APA-Banjul (The Gambia) – The Atlantic Initiative was launched by the king of Morocco in November 2023.
The 15th Summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Banjul, Gambia, reaffirmed the strategic importance of the “Atlantic African States” Initiative launched by King Mohammed VI.
In their final communiqué, the heads of state hailed this initiative as a process towards an African partnership aimed at strengthening cooperation and integration between African countries bordering the Atlantic, in order to consolidate peace, stability and shared prosperity in the region.
The summit also praised the Moroccan sovereign’s initiative to facilitate the Sahel countries’ access to the Atlantic Ocean, underlining its strategic importance within the context of Morocco’s active solidarity with sister African countries, particularly those in the Sahel region.
The Atlantic Initiative was launched by the king of Morocco in November 2023, and has been joined by landlocked Mali, Niger, Chad and Burkina Faso.
