The Gambian police say they are investigating a spate of armed robberies targeting banks and financial transaction bureaus in recent days.
The latest incident took place on Tuesday when three armed men burst into the main banking hall at the Access Bank in Brusubi, a new urban settlement located 22km outside the capital Banjul.
”The footage shows all three men carrying pistols, although only one of them pulled out a shotgun, prompting the bank’s security officers to flee and hide” a statement from the police said.
According to the statement the armed robbers fired no shots and no injuries were reported in connection to the incident.
The CCTV footage revealed the robbers collecting an unknown amount of money from the teller’s counter before making their escape in a Benz V-Boot vehicle without a number plate.
The police have also reported another robbery incident in Kunkujang Badjie Estate, when a Western Union money outlet was attacked by three men, one armed with a pistol.
Holding the employee Yankuba Darboe at gunpoint, the robbers tied him before proceeding to grab stacks of Dalasi note amounting to D77,275 and fleeing.
The Gambian police could not ascertain whether both robberies were committed by one group and advised the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious incident as they comb the area for the suspects and the stolen monies.
