The Black Stars of Ghana on Sunday defeated the Bafana Bafana of South Africa 1-0 in their second leg match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers played at Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
The lone goal of the match came in the 33rd minute of the match through a penalty awarded to the Black Stars and converted by Captain Andre Ayew, after Daniel Amartey was fouled inside the 18-yard box.
The efforts made by the Ghanaian team to increase the tally failed due to poor finishing by the strikers, while the Black Stars defenders were able to contain the pressure mounted by the South Africans to get the equalizer,
According to local media reports, the Black Stars will now play in the play-off stages of the African qualifiers despite having the same 13 points with South Africa in Group G, but with superior goals difference.
The reports added that Africa’s representatives at the Qatar FIFA World Cup will be known after the play-offs are concluded among the 10 countries that made it to this last stage of the qualifying series.
