The Bank of Ghana (BoG) on Monday commenced the circulation of newly enhanced cedi notes in a bid to improve security, APA learns here.
The exercise, which started in Accra, is expected to continue to the various regional capitals and eventually hit the entire nation.
The upgraded cedi bank notes are one (1), five (5), 10, 20 and 50, which have been given specific public security features to meet modern security features.
It is expected to improve the durability and counterfeiting, which has mostly been the case in the notes.
The Daily Graphic reports on Tuesday that the Head of Communications at the BoG, Mrs. Esi Hammond, assured the public that the notes would gradually phase out the old ones and urged the public to exercise restraint while her outfit partners the banks to get them the new notes.
The Bank had earlier in the year announced that it would introduce the new notes to help promote security in the country, which hitherto was prone to counterfeiting.
