President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has performed the ceremony to signify the commencement of the construction of a statute in honour of late former United Nations Secretary General, Dr. Kofi Annan.
The statue, being constructed at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Centre at Teshie in Accra, is scheduled to be completed within six months and it is anticipated that it will attract international tourists.
The wife of the late diplomat, Mrs. Nana Annan, also joined the president on Wednesday in performing the ceremony to erect a monument in memory of late selfless leader, whose tenure as UN Secretary General, changed the dimension of world peacekeeping activities.
President Akufo-Addo eulogized Mr. Annan, saying he lived his life in accordance with the values and principles that made him one of the revered industrious international diplomats.
Mr. Annan emerged the 7th UN Secretary General in 1997 and served until 2006.
He passed on last year at the age of 80 and was buried in Accra.
