The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has confirmed that December 7, 2020 is the day the country will hold its general elections.
The confirmation has come at a time the commission is reportedly making moves to change the original date, December 7, to November 7, in subsequent elections.
The Daily Graphic has confirmed that Mrs. Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the commission, in an interview noted her organisation has decided to stick to December date, although it has initiated moves to change the date of the elections.
“Although the EC in favour of the change in date, we don’t intend to do so this year,” she added.
The change in date has become necessary, owing to the short transition time the former governments have to hand over power to newly elected governments.
