Twenty persons have been reported dead in the Upper East Region of Ghana, following torrential rains in the past eight days, reports said on Thursday.
Reports received on Thursday said that several persons were displaced, while some were injured and that the death toll could rise.
The reports added that the destruction was widespread across the 15 districts of the region, injuring 19 people and destroying 1,550 houses.
According to the reports, portions of a bridge in Builsa North District, which connects Jansa community to Sandema, the district capital, had been washed away.
The Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) for the region, Mr. David Mba, is reported by the Daily Graphic that as saying that the team realised after going round that the situation had not been good because some of the people got drowned in the flood waters.
He said that his outfit was collating figures and would update the public with the needed information “as and when there are changes’’.
There was continuous rainfall in Ghana from October 1, 2019 to October 11, 2019, causing flooding in the area with its adverse effects on life and property in the region.
