Ghana’s Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has expressed the need for Ghana and Germany to deepen bilateral and economic cooperation for the benefit of their citizens.
Speaking at the Ghana Mutual Prosperity Partnerships (GMMP) Round table with German Businesses in Ghana, Mr Ofori-Atta noted that the two coun¬tries operated a similar economic structures with the Small and Me-dium-Scale Enterprises leading job and employment creation.
The Minister explained that the objective of the govern¬ment is to use the private sector as catalyst for growth and econom¬ic recovery and also to know the challenges facing the private sector particularly, German businesses in Ghana and address them.
According to him, the essence of the GMMP is to build closer collaboration with the private sector and particularly Ger¬man Businesses in Ghana and to address any challeng¬es facing the sector.
The report by the Ghanaian Times on Thursday said that Mr Ofori-Atta commended Germany for its contribution to the develop¬ment of Ghana and contributing 2.1 billion Euros under the G20 Compact with Africa and the German com¬panies, which had decided to stay in Ghana, in spite of the difficult economic challenges facing the country.
The Minister also expressed delight at recent improvements recorded by Ghana, adding that Ghana has turned the corner and that inflation has dropped from 54.1 per cent last year to the current figure of 23.2 per cent, while the Cedi has been stabilised.
He assured that the Ghanaian gov¬ernment would continue to create conducive environment for the private sector to thrive in Ghana.
In her remarks, the Deputy German Ambassa¬dor to Ghana, Mrs Sivine Jansen, said that German and Ghanaian businesses shared a long-standing business relationship that spanned a wide variety of products and services across different sectors.
“Germany strongly values our close partnership with Ghana across the different areas of coop¬eration and both countries contin¬ue to enjoy fruitful engagements at the political level,” she said.
According to the Deputy Ambassador, it is fundamental for Ghana to accelerate its investments in infra¬structure so that business¬es can prosper.
