A manager of Ghana’s main mortuary has warned the public about a possible congestion over the coronavirus pandemic.
The state-owned Daily Graphic newspaper on Tuesday reports that the Mortuary Manager of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Mr. George Denkyi has warned bereaved families to organize private burial ceremonies for their relatives whose bodies are in the morgue instead of waiting for Covid-19 pandemic to end before doing so.
Five people have died of the virus in Ghana with over 205 cases so far
According to the paper, Mr.Denkyi advised Ghanaians that since it is not clear when exactly the pandemic would end, it would be unwise to continue to keep the bodies in the morgue.
“Going for the dead bodies and organizing private burial ceremonies will save time and cost of keeping the bodies in the morgue”, the paper quoted Denkyi as saying.
He said the public should not wait for the morgue to be full before decongesting the place given the critical period the nation is facing due to the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile the Ghanaian Times reports that the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has disinfected 127 markets in the Central Region to contain the spread of the virus.
The region has so far not recorded any Covid -19 case.
Times again reports that the nation is on edge as it awaits test results of the 15, 384 found through contact tracing during the two-week partial lockdown.
