The Officials at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) have arrested a 52-year-old Ghanaian taxi driver based in the Netherlands, Oppong Kweku Owusu, for alleged cocaine trafficking.
The suspect was arrested at the Departure Hall of the airport while going through the departure formalities to board a flight back to his base in Netherlands.
The Daily Graphic reports on Thursday that he was suspected by an officer and pulled to the side on suspicion of dealing in drugs, but he denied.
A search on his carry-on bag revealed three large parcels suspected to be narcotic drugs and was detained for further interrogation.
He then managed to expel 100 thumb-sized powdery substances suspected to be cocaine.
It was, however, tested initially and found to be cocaine, but has been sent to the forensic laboratory for further analysis.
The Head of Communications, Meida Relations and Protocol of the Narcotics Control Board, Mr. Francis Opoku, said that the suspect had both Ghanaian and Netherlands passports.
