The Ghana Police Administration has announced the dispatch of a total of 14,000 police personnel across the country on Thursday as part of measures to ensure public safety during the Easter celebrations, APA has learnt here Wednesday.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police. George Alex Mensah, the Director General of the Police Operations, the personnel were selected from various units such as the Special Weapon and Tactics, Rapid Development Force among others and they would be deploy to hotspots like beaches, convention centres organized by churches, restaurants, churches and other public places.
Mensah added that about 500 personnel would specifically be deployed to Kwahu in the Eastern Region of Ghana where paragliding festival would be held.
A great number of foreigners from South Africa, United Kingdom, the US and other European countries usually patronize this event.
He made it clear that the personnel, who are being deployed are highly equipped to overcome any challenge that may crop up during their operations. The deployment, has come as a result of rising scourge of armed robbery activities in Ghana where a bus carrying players of a local football club was attacked by armed robbers, while a foreign diplomat was also robbed at gunpoint at Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra.
