The Ghanaian press on Wednesday focuses on the call for constitutional
changes to help fight corruption in the West African country.
The Ghanaian Times said some panelists at a forum against corruption has called for
an urgent review of the Ghanaian Constitution to especially tackle the provision that
allows the President to appoint majority of his ministers from Parliament,
explaining that it weakens the fight against corruption.
The Auditor-General, Mr. Daniel Domelovo; Professor Stephen Adai, Chairman of the
National Development Planning Commission (NPDC); and a private legal practitioner,
Clara Beeri Kasser-Tee, advocated for the review at the 2nd National Dialogue on
Anti-Corruption, Rule of Law and Accountability in Accra.
The Daily Graphic for its part, says the Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party
(NPP), Mr. Freddie Blay, has challenged a contempt case filed against him by the
Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) at an Accra High
Court.
He noted that CHRAJ failed to serve him a notice for which he had to respond and
that the application for contempt was “fatally flawed and procedurally incompetent”.
The Goldstreet Business for its part said the government has announced plans to
expand mini electricity grids in the country to enhance access to power from
renewable energy resources.
