The fumigation of schools and donations to the COVID-19 Trust Fund dominate the headlines of Ghanaian newspapers on Wednesday.
The Ghana Times reports that about 722 Senior High Schools and 28 special schools have been earmarked by the waste management company, Zoomlion Waste Management Company Limited for nationwide fumigation to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19).
The newspaper also reported that scores of people were seen at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra to begging for food and money because of the partial lockdown, which has entered its third week. The lockdown is an emergency protocol to control the spread of the coronavirus in certain parts of the country.
The Daily Graphic also focuses on the donation to the National Covid-19 Trust Fund to support the government effort to battle the spread of the coronavirus, which has virtually brought the economy at a standstill.
According to the newspaper, Goldfields Mining Company has donated $850,000 to the fund and that the donation was made by Mr. Alfred Baku, Executive Vice President and Head of Goldfields West Africa. It quoted Mr. Baku as saying that the contribution was to support government in the fight against the pandemic in their operating areas in the Western Region and other parts of the country.
The newspaper added that the ECOWAS Bank of Investments and Development (EBID) has also contributed $250,000 to the fund.
The Graphic also focused on the appeal by former President John Dramani Mahama to the government to appeal to the telecommunication industries to reduce their rates to enable people enjoy their services during the lockdown period.
