The Ghanaian press on Tuesday highlights the launch of the “Rearing for Food and Jobs (RFJ), another flagship programme by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at Wa, the Upper West Regional capital.
The Daily Graphic reports that the programme will be piloted in five regions in the northern belt of the country, where livestock rearing will be used to create employment for the people, while promoting food security in the country.
The four-year programme, scheduled from 2019-2023, is aimed at increasing domestic production of livestock to help reduce the importation of meat, which the president stated was pegged at $400 million.
The Ghanaian Times reported the “Boost for livestock production…as President launches Rearing for Foods, Jobs”, with the picture of the President, stressing that the country has over the past 20 years seen a decline in livestock production, which the programme seeks to reverse.
In a related development, the Graphic and Times reported that four district chief executives in the northern region were on Monday involved in a road crash when a vehicle they were travelling on collided with another vehicle.
They were billed to participate in the launch of the programme, which would be implemented in their jurisdictions.
