The three-day meeting of the Ghanaian cabinet led by the President and the GH¢600 million soft loan scheme for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in view of the impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) are some of the leading stories in Ghanaian newspapers on Friday.
The Daily Graphics reports that President Akufo-Addo is leading a three-day meeting of the Cabinet to examine data gathered so far on the impact of the Covid-19 across all governance sectors in Ghana.
The meeting, according to Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, started on Thursday and will expect sector ministers to report on the impact of the disease across their ministries and make recommendations.
The newspaper also said that about 200,000 businesses had been projected by the National Board for Small-Scale Industries (NBSSI) to benefit from the disbursement of the GH¢600 million soft loan scheme announced by the President for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in view of the impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on them.
The newspaper said that the Executive Director of the NBSSI, Mrs. Kosi Yankey Ayeh, stated that the measure would address the issue of people losing their jobs through reduction of staff strength by businesses as a result of the negative impact of the COVID-19, and that the board was also working hard to support businesses, including those which had come out with innovations.
The Ghanaian Times reported that the Ghana Health Service (GHS) says that Ghana recorded its highest confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) cases on April 25 and has since seen a decline in the number of positive cases.
According to the Director-General, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, within the last one week, the country has consistently seen a reduction in the number of positive cases, though it is not to say that Ghana was free of the virus.
The newspaper also said that the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken a decision to make the Ghana Premier League autonomous.
It added that the Executive Council, at its meeting on Tuesday, May 5, decided to form a five-member committee to advise the GFA on how to proceed with the implementation of the policy.
According to the report, the Premier League Autonomy Committee will be made up of three persons nominated by the 18-Premier League Clubs with the other two to be added by the GFA.
