The Black Stars of Ghana on Tuesday qualified for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar after they were held to a 1-1 draw by the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the MKO Abiola stadium in Abuja.
The Black Stars took the lead in the 10th minute of the first half when captain, Thomas Partey’s shot from outside the 18-yard box beat slipped between the hands of Nigerian goalkeeper Francis Uzoho and went into the net.
The Super Eagles got the equalizer in the 21st minute of the first half of the match through captain, William Troost-Ekong, who converted the penalty awarded to the team when the Super Eagles player Ademola Lookman was brought down within the 18-yard box for the penalty kick.
Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen scored what could have been the second goal for the Super Eagles, but it was ruled offside by the VAR.
With the 1-1 score line, the Black Stars qualified ahead of the Super Eagles on the superior away goal rule since the first leg played last Friday in Kumasi, Ghana ended 0-0.
