After praying for the souls of those who lost their lives during the accidents, the Ghanaian leader on Saturday disclosed that the committee, which included the Ministers of the Interior, Roads and Highways and Transport with the task of examining and proposing measures to deal with the increased state of road accidents in the country, had concluded its work and made recommendations for consideration by the police.
Nana Akufo Addo expressed his concern during an end-of-year socialization of the West Africa Security Services Association (WASSA) of the Ghana Police Service at the Police Headquarters in Accra.
The President said the frequent accidents on the nation’s highways, which claimed lives and limbs, must be halted within the shortest possible time.
According to him, the police were suffering from a low public image adding that it was encouraging how the leadership was working assiduously towards reversing the trend and cited two recent instances where a shocking video of a local driver and his mate assaulted a police officer at Kasoa in which the two were quickly arrested and put before a court and remanded.
Meanwhile, the death toll of the gory accident that happened at Kintampo has hit 65 while that of Ekumfi Dunkwa in the Central Region has climbed from seven to 35.
