Major General Asmah who holds a Bachelors degrees in Arts and Law from the University of Ghana, begins work in January 2025 as she replaces Lieutenant General Nirmal Kumar Thapa, a Nepalese who will end his role as head of the mission in December, 2024.
Major General Asmah has 31 years of experience working for the Ghana Armed Forces and United Nations peacekeeping when she was deputy force commander of UNDOF between 2021 and 2023.
Her other roles include as GAF education director and Staff Officer in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in 2015-2016 and 2012-2013.
She was also as part of the United Nations Organisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC) from 2003 to 2004.
Major General Asmah who was also Course Director at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, headed GAF’s Department of Defence Civilian Establishment as Director General.
