The Chief Executive Officer of Menzgold, a gold dealership company operating in Accra, has been on police wanted list after a court in Accra issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of defrauding by false pretense.
He was later traced to Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, where he has been in police custody since December 7, 2018 for charges of misdemeanor.
A statement jointly signed by the Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, ACP David Eklu and acting Director of Legal and Prosecutions of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Mr. Abu Issah, has confirmed in Accra.
Mr. Mensah, according to the statement, is expected to appear in the Ghanaian court on February 2, 2019, but a delegation dispatched to the UAE on January 16, 2019 was not able to negotiate for his release.
It is expected that until the determination of his case in the UAE, it may be difficult to extradite him to Ghana from Dubai.
Meanwhile, the customers, who are victims of his gold depositing company’s activities, are reeling under the agony of losing huge sums of monies through their investments in Menzgold.
