The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has said that the country’s inflation rate for the month of July 2023 rose for the fourth consecutive month to 43.1 per cent.
The GSS said in a statement on Wednesday in Accra that that the rise in inflation in July was higher than 42.5 per cent recorded in June this year by 0.6 per cent.
According to the statement, the rise in the figures for the July inflation rate was attributed to the hike in food prices.
It added that food inflation in July 2023 increased by 0.427 per cent to 55.6 per cent from 54.2 per cent in June 2023, while non-food inflation in June 2023 rose by 0.573 per cent to 33.8 per cent from 33.4 per cent in June 2023.
It explained that the Consumer Price Index for July was 191 per cent as against 133.5 per cent for July 2022.
“Inflation for locally produced items was 37.5 per cent and inflation for imported items was 45.7 per cent,” the statement said.
On regional inflation, the GSS said that Greater Accra recorded the lowest inflation rate of 31.8 per cent, while the North East Region recorded the highest rate of inflation of 64 per cent.
