The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has said that airlines flying passengers into Ghana will be fined if they bring any unvaccinated persons into the country.
The GACL said in a statement on Monday in Accra that it would fine airlines $3,500 for every passenger they bring in that is not vaccinated against the COVID-19 or that tests positive for the coronavirus on arrival.
According to the statement, the rules follow others introduced last week by the country’s health ministry that require all people entering Ghana to be vaccinated.
The rules will come into effect for the Kotoka International Airport in Accra on Tuesday, December 14, 2021.
“Airlines that bring passengers to Kotoka International Airport who are not fully vaccinated shall be surcharged $3500 per passenger,” the statement said.
“All passengers are required to present evidence of having filled Ghana’s Health Declaration Form (HDF) at www.ghs-hdf.org at the point of embarkation.
“Airlines that bring passengers to Kotoka International Airport who had not filled HDF shall be surcharged $3500 per passenger,” it added.
The GACL explained that all arriving passengers must possess a COVID-19 negative PCR test from an accredited laboratory in the country of origin and that the test should have been done not more than 72 hours before the scheduled departure time from the country of origin.
It assured that non-Ghanaians may be refused entry and returned to the point of embarkation at a cost to the Airline, while Ghanaians will be allowed entry, but subject to 14 days of mandatory quarantine at a designated facility.
