Ghana’s president-elect John Dramani Mahama, on Wednesday met with envoys from the United States and the United Kingdom, highlighting Ghana’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations with the two world powers, despite current economic challenges.
In a statement on his X, Mahama said that he received the two envoys who conveyed congratulatory messages on behalf of their countries and that their meeting marked a significant step in strengthening diplomatic relations between Ghana and the two nations.
Mahama also stressed the importance of continuing and developing the “robust” relationship established over the years and expressed Ghana’s commitment to maintaining fruitful partnerships with the United States and the United Kingdom.
The president-elect also addressed the current economic and financial challenges facing the country, with particular emphasis on the challenges in the energy sector.
According to him, this sector “requires urgent attention”, and he expressed the hope that Ghana can “work closely with its international partners to resolve these issues.”
It will be recalled that Mahama is returning to power eight years after losing to out-going President Akufo-Addo and defeating vice president, Mahamudu Bawumia, in the elections held on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
