President Nana Akufo-Addo has called for the closure of all public and private schools and halted all forms of public gatherings in the country as part of measures to prevent a possible outbreak of the coronavirus in the country.
Speaking to the nation in a televised broadcast on Sunday night, President Akufo-Addo said that his decision to take such a critical decision was to protect the utmost interest of the state and the people.
He noted that six cases of the COVID-19 virus have been recorded in the country, and that, although they were imported into the country, there was the need to ban all forms of social gatherings to put the country in a safe mood.
Consequently, all public gatherings such as conferences, workshops, funerals, political rallies, sporting events and religious activities in churches and mosques have been suspended.
The universities and senior and junior high schools have also been closed down, to help the nation protect its citizens.
He urged the citizens to observe the various protocols and follow the social distancing procedure to help the nation with the fight against the virus.
