Ghana’s Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia on Tuesday launched an electronic procurement system meant to save the country 100 million dollars annually by preventing corruption and inefficiencies in the public procurement.
The project, which costs 5 million dollars is the first of its kind in the West African sub-region, formed part of the e-transform Ghana project being executed with 97 million dollars credit provided in 2014 by the World Bank.
For the first phase of the project, six high spending public institutions, which have been hooked on to the system, which is accessible throughwww.ghaneps.gov.gh, is expected to do the main processing of works, good and services.
The first institutions to be hooked onto the system include Ghana Cocoa Board, Ghana Health Service, Koforidua Technical University, Volta River Authority (VRA), Tema Metropolitan Assembly and Department of Feeder Roads.
The Government, according to the Vice President Bawumia, is determined to bring on board all ministries, public universities, metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies as well as other selected public institutions on to the system by the close of the year.
