Children have bore the brunt of grave human rights violation throughout Sudan since the military government took charge of the country in 2019, UNICEF said in a statement seen by APA on Thursday.
“Over 120 grave violations against children have been verified across Sudan since the military coup on 25 October last year” the UNICEF statement said.
“Nine children were killed during demonstrations mainly in Khartoum while another 13 were injured. Most violations were against adolescent boys. Boys and girls as young as 12 were detained. Children were impacted as a result of frequent attacks on medical facilities” it added.
The UN agency called on the authorities in Sudan to protect children from harm and should not be deliberately targeted during conflict or other political activities.
Scores of people mostly civilians have died in recurrent protests across Sudan against the military government led by Abdelfattah al-Burhan who seized power last October.
Protesters have been calling for the military to return power to civilians.
