Morocco confirms its role as a privileged partner in Africa, working for a future where solidarity and common development take precedence over challenges and obstacles.
A decisive step has just been taken in the field of health in Guinea-Bissau where President Umaro Sissoco Embaló, inaugurated the country’s very first hemodialysis center, located within the Simão Mendes National Hospital.
A medical establishment that marks a major turning point for patients suffering from kidney failure, who until then were forced to travel abroad to access adequate treatment.
This project, made possible thanks to the strategic support of Morocco and the financial help of the Amal Foundation, reflects the kingdom’s commitment to strengthening health infrastructure in Africa. Equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and staffed by medical personnel trained abroad, the center aims to respond effectively to growing needs for specialised care, in a country where access to nephrological treatments remains a major challenge.
Until now, the absence of a hemodialysis center in Guinea-Bissau forced patients to make long and expensive trips to neighbouring countries, an untenable situation for the majority of patients. With this new structure, these essential treatments finally become accessible, offering a ray of hope to many families in Guinea Bissau.
“Today, we are writing a new page for the health sector in Guinea-Bissau. Our citizens will no longer be forced to travel thousands of kilometers to receive vital care,” President Embaló said at the inauguration ceremony, visibly moved by the scale of this advance.
This initiative is part of a broader dynamic of cooperation between Morocco and Guinea-Bissau, demonstrating the kingdom’s desire to support the development of the African continent. This is not the first time that Morocco has provided its expertise and financial support to Guinea-Bissau. In the medical field, several Bissau-Guinean health professionals have benefited from specialised training in Moroccan hospitals, allowing them to strengthen their skills and respond to the country’s health challenges.
The hemodialysis center at Simão Mendes Hospital is only a first step. The Bissau-Guinean leader has already announced that efforts will be made to extend this service to other regions of the country, in order to ensure wider coverage and improve access to care for the entire population.
Morocco’s support for Guinea-Bissau is part of a more global vision, that of active solidarity and an African partnership based on concrete actions. From education to health, including agriculture and energy, Morocco is multiplying initiatives to support the countries of the continent in their socio-economic development.
Thanks to this cooperation, Guinea-Bissau has just taken a major step in improving its health system. The hemodialysis center of the Simão Mendes Hospital thus symbolises not only medical progress, but also a model of successful collaboration between African nations.
