Guinea-Bissau’s President André Mario Vaz has dissolved the government headed by Prime Minister Artisdes Gomes, according to a decree made public Monday evening.
In the decree of which APA has received a copy, President Vaz accuses the Prime Minister and his political party, the African Party for the Independence of Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde (PAIGC) of having refused to participate in the meeting of the Council of State, whose agenda was about the review of the social situation in the country, in particular the Police crackdown on the populations.
As a non-binding consultation body of the President of the Republic, the Council of State consists of all party leaders represented in Parliament, the holders of sovereign bodies (Parliament, Prime Minister and President of the Supreme Court), as well as five personalities appointed by the Head of State.
