APA-Conakry (Guinea) The Guinean capital Conakry has been the flashpoint of an unrest on Saturday as heavy barrages of gunfire were heard. Eyewitness accounts suggest heavily armed uniformed personnel have been occupying the centre of the city, blocking access to it by vehicles. It is not clear whether a mutiny was taking place. The junta led by Mamady Doumbouya who seized power in a bloodless coup in September 2021 has not commented. There are unconfirmed reports that former military head of state Moussa Dadis Camara has escaped from prison. Dadis was being detained pending a trial over his alleged role in the massacre of over 100 protesters at a rally in Conakry's main stadium in 2009.
